Radio Rehab....trouble with temptation.

This is the Road to Redemption....good morning, good afternoon, good evening... What ever things are good in your time zone...God is good and I'm Bryan Duncan... This weeks show... The Trouble with Temptation... It's like a big parade...it just keeps on coming...

Here comes the big parade / Harry Connick

(Over solo) Yea here comes the big parade alright.... I'm Bryan Duncan on the Road TO Redemption...we're talking about The Trouble with Temptation... It'd be no big deal if it wasn't so dog gone Tempting!

so Why would God allow us to be tempted anyway?

And why isn't there a temptation to not go there?

Resisting temptation is like two ends of a broom stick... Slap one end away and the other end swings around and smacks you in the head...

Franklin Jones says "What makes resisting temptation so difficult for many people, is that they don't want to discourage it completely"!

We leave that door open just a crack don't we? It's the beginning of all dependencies... A way To avoid the emotional pain of life...it'd be fine if it worked, but it causes our life to unravel into an unmanageable ball of string.

Sure it takes awhile to get there... But if the consequences were immediate... Well then it wouldn't be very tempting would it. No, temptation kind of strings you along until you're over committed and then you're hooked!

Slow down/ Keb Mo

"Temptation comes from the lure of your own evil desires"...James 1:14 says Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Over solo Yea, I know you, you're thinking well I'm gonna die anyway... So why resist temptation? That could be your excuse If you have no hope for the future and a better life. That¹s you isn't it...you've gotten bogged down by your past...lost your vision somewhere... Ran out of dreams.. Yea I've been in that place a few times. Empty isn't it? You know God still loves you and still has a better plan for your life. He will make all things right If you choose to follow his will...but One benefit you're sure to get is Temptation to not do what he says...let's face it... It's always easier to do your own thing...

That's Keb Mo/ Slow Down... On the Road To Redemption... Sounds like good advise to me...I'm Bryan Duncan

Here's one of my songs from the Last Time I Was Here...called the preachin is easy.. Especially when we're talking about resisting temptation... I call it the "slippery things in Life" ...they make it easy to fall... Preachin is easy/ bryan duncan

That's me there... Complaining alittle bit. I've fallen into temptation that I didn't resist...That's why I'm doin this show... There is a way back though, it's called the Road To Redemption...and it's all up hill...

Temptation is not something you can resist alone...No one recovers by themselves! "let us not neglect our meeting together...encourage and warn each other" Hebrews 10:25 says

"No temptation has taken you but such as is common to man" So I want to be sure to Celebrate the times when we rise above ourselves... If you been delivered/ Kirk Franklin

Now that your a little happier about your victories... It's time for life out of Step:

maybe you don't have any temptations really because you don't have any standards... Yea, I can see that...like the pessimist that doesn't have any expectations... That way he won't be disappointed... I mean why fight it...like peace at any cost...this would be pleasure at any cost...there is a way that seems right to a man... But in the end it leads only to destruction... So Why don't we just redefine our whole belief system to meet our own needs... We can set up our own little kingdom against all odds...assuming the throne that belongs to God. I can always find support for my own selfishness...excuses for my dependencies...justification for my stolen profits... Happens everyday in the world...It works for a long time in some cases... But no matter how tall the building you jump off of is the sudden finish still happens... sometimes the news isn't there to cover the beginning of our wrong choices...but the disaster at the end sure makes a nice headline!

Emmanuel/ parachute band Dear God, save me from my self... My own sinful desires to follow my own directions without obedience to your will...It's easier to do things my way but I can see how unmanageable my life becomes... without you... my choices are never free from this conflict... Don't leave me to resist temptation alone...

When tempted let no one say that God is tempting me...for God cannot be tempted by evil nor does he tempt anyone. But he will with the temptation provide a way of escape so that you may be able to bear it....

Let's take a moment to be grateful for all the second chances that Emmanuel, my supreme redeemer gives... I've learned to talk to him even in the middle my daily failures.... God is patient with me... He loves me even through my mistakes... He is the one who gives me the desire to do right that sets in motion my temptations to do evil in the first place. It's the standard that I want to reach in pleasing him... That makes me aware of my failures to begin with.

Focusing on him is my only hope... His love everlasting... His promises are true, I am doomed to miss the mark of the high calling of God... Without his help I am lost... Time and again he rescues me... From my desperation...and my determination to meet my own needs for love and intimacy... He saves me from my worst fears.. My Temptation is fear that I won't get what I want in God's timing. It comes with panic that makes me not trust God. Maybe that's the biggest temptation of all...to not give my self to God to do as he sees fit....

Blue Skies/ Bryan Duncan

Turning to God doesn't make temptation magically disappear! but when you get past a temptation the sun does come out again... so I strive toward the mark of a higher calling...Good things are worth fighting for...picture me putting my sun glasses on right now getting into my convertible and driving straight into the sunshine.

(Over the solo) It's easy to see the negative side of temptation... but there is also a positive... God allows it as an opportunity to turn to him for help ... in an effort to create a stronger bond of intimacy with God and others... When we are tempted to take the easy way out we can build strength and Character by staying focused on what we really want... Peace on the inside... And the satisfaction of winning for a change.
