This is the road to redemption...(start music) Bryan Duncan here...I've been lookin at the things that keep me on the Road To Redemption when I'm out of control...I call em guardrails... One of em is a Higher Power!

Aaron Neville / gotta serve somebody (4:17)

That's Aaron Neville... Gonna have to serve somebody... It might be the devil or it might be the lord... But I came to believe... That a power greater than myself could restore me to sanity... This is radio rehab looking at the guardrail of a Higher Power... This is where it gets a little sticky.... It tends to divide people along religious lines... The 12 steps aren't popular with some folks because somewhere some one picked a door knob for their higher power...

(over the intro) I've never met who ever that was... Getting acquainted with a higher power is my responsibility and I gotta start somewhere... It doesn't help that everybody has some imagination of God as THEY understand him... But that shouldn't keep me from my own understanding... I believe in the highest power and I have confidence that besides finding me... he can find you and show himself to you as he sees fit... So why don't we just start there...

Ashley Cleveland/ You Are There (fade at 5;15)

(at 3:10) HE that comes to God must first believe that he exists and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him... Found that in the book of Hebrews...in the Bible

you're listening to radio rehab and we're lookin at a guardrail that keeps us on the Road To Redemption...a higher power....I'm Bryan Duncan by the way and this tune is by Ashley Cleveland... YOU are there.. (over intro) For me... YOU would be God almighty... And his only begotten son Jesus... the Christ...and my higher power...and I still don't understand him...but I'm learning about him every day as I work step 11...

Hezekiah Walker,Carl Thomas, Thelma Guyton, Asia & Ashley, Tammy Ruggeri/ YOU (3:54)

That's Hezekiah Walker and a bunch of other people... Songs called YOU... Describing the relationship I have with MY higher power...YOU give me strength to face another day... When I'm in trouble I call on YOU...

My higher power is a great guardrail, keeping me on The Road TO Redemption...cause he offers forgiveness and a clean slate every day...

Keb Mo/ Hand it Over (2:50)

That's Keb Mo Again... Can you tell I like his stuff...Hand it over...and Let me just add 'to a higher power' I see that as a guardrail on the Road To Redemption...and as sure as this road exists there's a foot path close by called "life Out Of Step"...

So what do I need a higher power for anyway...well it's pretty obvious that I can't do some thing's by myself if fact the things I've accomplished with out anybody's help have proven not to be too good...it's like the second law of thermo dynamics... If I don't receive outside energy and I am isolated.. I start to degenerate...turn into Ted Kazinski livin in a cabin alone somewhere... Yea I think his higher power became explosives... Maybe a higher power would be one with a better aim in mind...but then how do I know that power isn't taking me over a cliff too? I think I need feed back from a higher power, Insight and dialog... So for me that kind of eliminates the door knob scenario.... I need a higher power to understand me when I don't...who knows me better than I know me... ...I guess I could get that from somebody more emotionally stable than me...I know lots of those people but I don't always feel that they know where I'm coming from.... I figured if I'm gonna work step three "turning my life and my will over to the care of God as I understood him" and in Step 11 "seek through prayer and meditation to improve my conscious contact with God"... Why not just make him the whole enchilada... I've thrown out a lot of my assumptions about who God is and what God's like... And I've asked him to show me personally... Not that I can't trust in others insights about God once in a while Or what's been written over the years about him that has stood the test of time... But if he's gonna be my higher power I'd like to learn as much about him and his plans as I can for myself...

Dear God...you're welcome to my life... I've been pretty clueless about why I'm here and what I'm supposed to do ... I want you to be my higher power and supreme redeemer...teach me first hand about your will and your plan and where I fit into that...In your own name I pray ... amen

Bryan Duncan/ One Touch Away (3:47)

That's one touch away... Bryan Duncan from my Blue Skies project...

(over intro) in my lifetime I've talked more about what God's like than I've really known... Until I found myself in desperate need I didn't really look for answers for myself...it's really easy to tell everybody else how it is when my life isn't in conflict with the truth I'm proclaiming...

Darwin Hobbs/ Deeper (5:01)

The only one I can depend on is already listenin...that's Darwin Hobbs singin ...song's called Deeper

God, to me, is my obvious higher power and a guardrail that keeps me on the Road To Redemption. In recent years I've found him to be patient, and gracious in odd ways and deliberate and slow and specific and ironic and vague...doesn't bother to explain much to me... But I've come to trust him just a little more... And I'm finding sanity...

You've been listening to the Road To Redemption with me... Reach me at bryanduncan.com or listen to the show again at radiorehab.com I'm recognizing that a higher power gives me the will to be willing... That and a few other guardrails keep me on the road...I'm Bryan Duncan fellow road warrior... Keep Coming back! This has been the Road to Redemption... On your transformation station.
